I feel like Bermuda is the only country where “colonisation”

literally meant finding unpopulated land, and populating it. Our history actually began in 1505. We have nothing indigenous, and have never known what it feels like to exist on stolen land. For everyone else, being colonised included, but wasn’t limited to, genocide and foreign flag erecting - not necessarily in that order.

  • Brit: So, do you think you will return to your country after you graduate, or would you prefer to stay here? :)
  • Me: I'd prefer to go home, definitely.
  • Brit: .... Really? O.o
  • Me: .. Yes.
  • Brit: Wow.. Why?
  • Me: Because salaries across the board are twice as high, and the weather doesn't suck.
  • Brit: Are they actually? Higher than in England?
  • Elle Woods: What? Like, its hard?
  • (As an aside, the question alone is innocent and welcomed. The condescending smirks and foreigner/benefit comments dancing behind it, however, are not.)

    Bermudians are truly spoiled.

    Or at least I am.

If the water isn’t piercingly blue with clear visibility for several feet, I actually cannot get in the water. Too ‘scurred.

    Nope.
